I begin a collage by examining my material, breaking it down, then reassembling it into a story or mood that I am trying to express. I tend to collage about nature, but explore other themes as well. I like to use organic shapes, textures, and big colors as well as muted earth tones in my collages. The layout of the collage can vary depending on what images I am working with. Often images connect seamlessly as if they were always meant to be together. After a collage is complete it triggers a memory or feeling that I associate with a place or moment in time. I recycle printed materials that would otherwise be discarded, so there is very little waste.
