Darina Komorowski

Darina Komorowski (b. 1995, Kazakhstan) is a painter based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Her practice is about how people are connected to one another and to the world around them, and about attention: the ability to notice the person beside you, even when they stay silent about what they feel.

For several years she spoke about this through flowers. A flower does not prove its worth or compete for sunlight. It simply exists as part of a larger field of earth, water and other living things. For Komorowski it became an image of equality, acceptance and belonging.

In 2026 the metaphor gave way to the people it stood for. Her new figurative works show gatherings: feasts, music, dances, tea around a low table. They are not a record of reality but a consciously bright world, where everyone is seen and everyone has a place. Painted with stylised, deliberately "incorrect" figures and the same open, saturated colour as her floral works, they draw on a childhood in multicultural Kazakhstan, where many traditions met at one table.

She works in acrylic, often on large canvases. She holds a BA in Design from Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Almaty), has a background in psychology, and is a resident artist at Kordallery, Berlin. Her works ar...
