David Monteiro

I am an artist based in Dublin. Trained in multiple mediums my work aims to explore unique landscapes. More recently I have been focused on two types of contemporary landscapes: the fantastical zone of the Botanic hothouse with its curious combination of interior and exterior spaces and the hybrid space of the botanic garden with its peculiar intersection of the tropical and the temperate.

For the most part I like to work with colour media: colouring pencils, pigment-based markers pens and crayons, oil pastels, and acrylic paints. I prefer bold compositions and striking colour palettes and contrasts. And more and more, having started out as a miniaturist, I prefer larger studies on archival paper or on canvas.

Most recently, I have been working to expand my digital art portfolio and aim to produce limited edition runs of archival prints.

I am semi-trained. I dropped out of Art College after two years and went in a different direction for some time. I've returned to art again in the last few years and have been teaching myself to cover my blind spots.
