Dhaval Manhar

Dhaval Manhar is a contemporary painter working through stories, symbols, scripts and ideas drawn from mythology, philosophy, history, science, literature and visual traditions.

His practice explores the systems and frameworks through which human beings have attempted to understand life, nature, consciousness, society and existence.

His process begins with research and questions. He brings together references from different traditions, connects them through symbols and metaphors, and translates these relationships into layered narrative paintings. Rather than presenting a single interpretation, his works invite viewers to discover connections and construct their own readings.

His current body of work begins with Indian knowledge traditions, including mythology and philosophy, while his broader practice remains open to ideas and visual traditions from across cultures.

Manhar works primarily in oil, developing paintings through a combination of research, visual storytelling and symbolic detail.

His first major series, Manav Purushartha / Human Goals, explores Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha as four dimensions of human life through contemporary interpretations of traditional narratives.
