The recurring sense of nostalgia in Dennis Fuentes’ works stem from his love for old things and the old days. Using acrylics as his medium, he paints in a realistic manner and often creates collage-like images by combining them with different layers and elements onto the canvas.
His degree in Fine Arts (Major in Advertising) from the University of San Carlos contributed to his training, though generally he is more of a self-taught artist. Growing up in a little humble town in the Philippines, he was exposed to the old world aesthetics of the great masters through a book published by Reader's Digest. He taught himself to paint by trying to copy works from that book. Those self-initiated studies sparked an interest in classical themes that he still loves today.
When he graduated from university, he moved to Dubai to work as a graphic designer. Consequently he set aside painting for almost two decades. His move to Toronto with its prolific art scene, inspired him to pursue fine art once again. This year saw Dennis pick up where he left off and his works are exhibited in group exhibitions in the city.
