Dhani Hariyanti

I am an Indonesian Expressionist - Tonalist painter based in East Java. Although self-taught, my understanding of art was shaped through years of observing my mother's paintings before gradually evolving into a more intuitive, atmospheric practice.

Rooted in landscape, my work transforms natural environments into emotional spaces through restrained color, texture, and layered surfaces. Rather than depicting places literally, I seek to evoke the atmosphere of memory, silence, and shifting states of mind.

Working across painting and crochet, I explore the relationship between touch, material, and remembrance. Texture is not merely a physical element but part of the emotional language of each piece, allowing imperfection to become an active presence within the work.

Inspired by the changing light and atmospheric qualities of Indonesian landscapes, I approach painting as an act of sensing rather than recording, inviting viewers to experience a place through feeling as much as through sight.
