First, THANK-YOU for your interest in my work!!!
My approach to my work is quite basic. Like a favorite childhood item of clothing, I start out with a simple emotional response to fabric selection. I treat each new piece of work as a problem in need of a solution. My design elements are kept simple and the emotional response to the process always stays acute. Quilts are not completed until they are HAND QUILTED; this allows me to really connect to the piece in order to bring it to its natural conclusion.
My quilts are not for beds they are made to hang on the wall.
I am a self-taught quilt artist. I have been quilting since the early 80's when I was determined that my own children would have the encouragement to explore and accept their own artistic abilities. During this time I tried to practice what I preached!
I always really hated sewing because I was constantly being told I was doing it wrong.... yet I loved quilts! I decided at some point (with strong encouragement from my family) to let go and just do it. I'm determined to be free from any restrictions when I create my work... (I tend to learn better from my mistakes!)
My formal education involved a bachelors degree in Sociology/Social Work.
None at this time.
