Diarmuid Boyd makes vividly colourful paintings in oil, mixed media and assemblage.
His quirky and surreal contemporary art consists of strange inventions and weird ,wild ,imagined worlds.
He makes witty and playful comments about the human condition with many references to ancient and modern life.
The originality and rare quality of his work make it very desirable to art collectors worldwide.
"The process of making my work usually starts from the very first marks - inner unconscious impulses begin to stir, and from here images suggest themselves.I don't start with a fixed idea of how the finished piece will look like but I follow the flow of what the paint suggests. These techniques have been used by some of my favourite painters like Max Ernst and Paul Klee."
Sometimes objects are attached to the surface - usually when the image or theme has partly developed.
Response to the work will vary with the individual. A painting can make an emotional connection with a viewer.
It is highly unconventional art that will appeal to those who value ideas that fall outside the mainstream.
These paintings continue to reveal themselves with repeated viewing.

Diarmuid Boyd was raised mainly in Ireland and has lived there most of his life..He also spent some of his childhood in England and Cyprus, where he began painting aged 8.
At St Columba's College under Kilmashogue mountain in Dublin he was taught art by Oisin Kelly and Frank Morris.
After school he lived and studied in Florence, Italy and then studied at Ulster College of art in Belfast.
He began painting full-time in 1981 having previously worked as a bookseller and shepherd.
