Born 1949 in Manila, Philippines.

I am daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, citizen and artist. Art is both personal and social. My concern is to continuously explore new forms, materials, and ways of seeing issues of power. Art is a personal search, yet it must be synthesized with a collective consciousness of a peoples history largely forgotten by the globalized world. I want my art to be a voice for women and children.

I make images from materials from home---my grandmothers shawl, my mothers crochet, my aunts veil, my beaded slippers, my childhood clothes. They are mementoes of nurturing by women in my family. I use them in my art to address concerns like cultural identity, globalization, the permanence of war, and environmental degradation. I like my work to reflect the Asian-Pacific woman, gaining mobility and fulfillment for herself, as she strives to live meaningfully for others.
