Who am I?
I'm Angela Schwer, a polymer clay artist and mother who is passionate about equal rights and feminism. I'm honest, easy-going, often crass, but always unsettled. Unsettled in the sense that if I'm not moving, doing, or making, I'm driving someone crazy (my husband says that squirrels are my people).
I'm drawn to detail, movement, and capturing the textures in nature that are often overlooked. I could spend all day looking over fabrics, cellular photography, and the complexity of plant structures. I take these inspirations and use them in my clay pieces to make unique art for people who want a one-of-a-kind piece.
I also enjoy the look of surprise when witnessing a shift in another's perspective on what polymer clay can be used for. Previously outcast as a craft medium, I have found that polymer can be used in unexpected ways to create explosive pieces of art.
Why me?
I began experimenting in clay in 2004 while interning in a classroom teaching students of various art mediums. Over the years, I have refined my techniques, and am a strong believer that talent accompanies dedication to your craft. While I originally started in flowers, my designs and projects have evolved to encompass a range from the familiar to the mercurial.
My art has been featured on various art blogs, as well as featured in the artist spotlight on This is Colossal. You can see it here:
