Donna Jonas

Born and raised in Brooklyn NY in the 1950’s gave me a great chance to grow and stimulate my creative soul.
Color and texture have been with me my entire life. I remember helping my mother in our flower garden as a child. The colors hypnotized me! I would tell her that I could “feel the colors”. I could hold a flower in my hand and just be happy…..the bright bold colors energized me. I learned at an early age which colors made me happy, which energized, and which calmed my soul. I learned which colors “played well” together, and which took center stage in a crowd.
My formal education was in nursing. I held newborn babies in my arms, as well as the sick and dying . It made me who I am today…..a very empathetic woman who sees through the roughness of people, places and things. I find beauty everywhere.
After years of nursing , I turned to the arts. I started my creative years with jewelry design. I enjoyed working with all the color gemstones. It made me feel like being back in the colorful garden. I worked with jewelry for several years, until I found paints!
I started painting so that I could visually explain the feelings that I have for color from my garden. Each painting is an explanation of how happy the earth, my garden, color...
