Dora Lam

A self-taught London based artist, usually found next to the stage capturing live performances on canvas.

I was born and raised in London with a strong current of art and creativity throughout my life, one of my earliest memories being composing a song in my head while skipping around the playground.

For the last 3 years I have been cultivating a live painting practice at jazz performances where I capture the musicians live and complete a painting within the show time. This practice started by accident when I made a few sketches at the Jazz Cafe in London to donate to a friends charity art auction.

My work aims to be a mixture of performance art, reportage, anti-photography, spontaneous creativity, improvisation, collaboration and enhancement of the live experience. My commitment to this work is fuelled by opening up new perspectives to audiences and participating in cross-disciplinary collaboration with musicians.

I am currently working primarily with acrylic but it tends to be mixed media, my mediums have to dynamic, expressive and fast drying due to the nature of live painting.
