I am a fine art photographer living and working Santa Fe, NM USA. I make primarily black and white images, finding a timeless quality in the monochrome image. Much of my work involves images of people - especially dancers and the nude figure. I also shoot some landscape and more conceptual work.
My only formal education in photography was a course I took in 1972 – The History of Photography, taught by Beaumont Newhall. Newhall had just left Eastman House for the University of New Mexico where I had also just arrived. It was an amazing experience spring on a somewhat unsuspecting undergraduate. I began to get a hint that photography was about more than verisimilitude – it could do more than map the world, it could create it.
Otherwise, I am an experiential learner—eager to get to the gear and skip the manual. That has not proven the most expedient way to learn to make photographs and I often find myself backtracking to learn how to do something that experience doesn’t make immediately clear. Workshops, books and mentors have all filled in the gaps.
I have been in a number of juried group shows as well as have had several solo shows. My work is widely published online and in print - both in the US and elsewhere.
