Elena Karakitsou

My artistic practice involves mainly photo based processes, while in the last few years I'm working with cyanotypes. This handmade old process creates a monochrome blue/white result.
In my work, I explore states of the conscious and subconscious mind that remain hidden and unrevealed, till I bring them to the surface through the artistic procedure.
For me it's an attempt to comprehend oneself as being a part of a larger energy system called world. In doing so, the created images can be considered to be mental images, thus respond to inner schemes, than images of the actual world. Often, they maintain a contemplative character and hopefully transfer an energy on their own.
