Born in Lebanon's divided and war-torn capital Beirut, Eli Abu Merhi found his way to art after completing his studies in law. Embracing the personality of his equally paranoid, schizophrenic and infectiously exuberant city, Eli's paintings are free-spirited, cheeky and fun.
With a Christian father, a Druze mother, a horse shoe hanging above the portal to his family home, and switching effortlessly between Arabic, English and French, Eli is that rare product of the Middle East straddling religions and cultures to find a unique vision, that is erotic, ambiguous, beautiful and unsettling.
