Linda Jacobson Linda Jacobson is a Los Angeles based painter whose work is nature based abstractions. Jacobson has recently exhibited at George Lawson Gallery in Culver City; Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica; California State University Channel Islands Fine Art Gallery, Ventura; in addition to Los Angeles Municipal Art Benefit exhibition and the Bleicher Gallery, West Hollywood, in conjunction with the Getty Research Institute's Pacific Standard Time exhibition. Jacobson received a BFA, Summa Cum Laude, from both Art Center College of Design and from California State University at Northridge. Jacobson continued her graduate work with pioneer abstract painter Lorser Feitelson who became her mentor. With Feitelson she studied in-depth modernism and classical composition. At CSUN Jacobson studied with expressionist Hans Burhhardt and art critic Peter Plagens, where she explored large acrylic stain paintings; some of her fellow art students were Peter Lodato, Michael McMillen, Jack Barth and Scott Grieger. Jacobson was part of the Los Angeles women's movement in the 1970s, and was involved with the Women's Building with Leslie Labowitz, Suzanne Lacy and Ruth Iskin, founder. In 1973, Jacobson was the co-editor for Southern California for Artweek with Marilyn Nix. She also wrote a book, "The drawings of Harry Carmean". Jacobson divided her time between Los Angeles and France during the late 70s and early 80s. She had her first solo exhibition in 1979 at John Bolen Gallery in Santa Monica of work inspired by her experience in Southern France. Jacobson moved her studio to downtown Los Angeles in 1984 where she was an active participant in the downtown art scene. Her work during this period was shown at the Fred Hoffman Gallery, Santa Monica; Valerie Miller Gallery, Palm Desert; Brand Art Library, Glendale, and the California State University, Los Angeles. In the 1990's Jacobson had the opportunity design and build her own studio. She moved to Venice to carry out her vision and still works there today. Throughout this time she showed in various galleries around LA including Mt. St. Mary's College, Luckman Fine Art Gallery, and Nemiroff-Deutsch Gallery. She also started the Venice Art Forum Group, a post-graduate seminar for the continuation of high level art critiques for painters. She has taught drawing and painting for many years and currently teaches at Otis School of Art and Design.
