"From advertising to art, the journey in between" Hi, I'm Sung-won Lee, a photographer in South Korea who has worked in the advertising photography business for 20 years. My works had always pursued a commercial purpose, seeking perfection and catching people's attention. At numerous photo shooting site, I had worked fiercely to create ‘images that everyone can be satisfied with'. That experiences gave me the important technological growth and I found my own style and color. But as time passes, some questions gradually began to pop up in my mind. “Does this work really contain what I want to make?" and "Does this image show how I feel exactly?” Advertising photography is an attractive form of art in itself, but sometimes I felt like I was losing myself in it. So I decided to step into a world of fine-art photography in a more liberal way, which can express the emotions and the moments that they really are. In this exhibition, I would like to show my own perspective that I have never captured before, based on all the skills and experiences learned from my advertising photography works. These works have no commercial purpose. Just delivered the emotions that come from me as images. By transforming the sophistication and detail of advertising photographs into the freedom and sense of fine-art photography, I tried to express a new form of story and aesthetics. Through this work, I want to discover the intersection of two worlds and show the process of transforming them into one unique artistic language. This solo exhibition is not just an exhibition of my work but the first step on a new challenge leaving 20 years of intense work behind, and a long-awaited personal artistic declaration. I wish that all the reflections and changes I have gained in this work process can impress you as well. Please enjoy the world that I saw through my camera and emotions that bloomed in it. I hope each of you find your own story with my work.
