Enrique Arnal was born in 1932 in the mining complex of Catavi, Bolivia where he spent his childhood.
His first individual show was in Cuzco, Peru in 1954. He exhibited in La Paz, Buenos Aires, Asuncion, Santiago, Bogotá, Lima, Washington, D.C., Paris and New York. He also participated in several group exhibits, including the Homage to Latin American Painting at the National Foundation of the Arts in El Salvador in 1977 and the First Ibero-American Conference of Art Critics and Artists in Caracas in 1978.
In October 2007, Enrique Arnal received the Pedro Domingo Murillo Award for a Lifetime of Artistic Merit from the Municipal Office of La Paz in recognition of his outstanding and unique contribution to Bolivian art. Previously he was awarded seven international art prizes, among them the La Paz Municipal Grand Prize in Painting (1955) and the INBO Biennial Award in La Paz (1975).
Enrique Arnal is Honorary Professor of the La Paz Fine Arts School. He studied in St. George’s College in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was a Fulbright Foundation Scholar (1991) and a Patiño Foundation Scholar to the International City of the Arts in Paris, France (1966-67).
