Frederic Villbrandt

Frédéric Villbrandt (b. 1975), lives and works in Paris (France). In 2001, he is graduated by the Fine Arts School of Paris (ENSB-A). He defines itself as a multidisciplinary artist, with an expressionistic and matiériste sensibility, using mainly drawing, painting and photography.

By exploring these various disciplines, he watches to preserve the specificity of each of them. With the automatic drawing, it is the pure line that is developed. This drawing approach is the base of its paints. The drawing is also practised as full medium, to end in thoughtful images and built from visual references. When he works the paint, beyond the color questions, he explores the pictorial material as such. Through the photography, even if elaborate scenes such as still lives, it is the immediate and the idea of capture of pieces of reality which is put forward.
