Fanny Roche

Fanny Roche is a French abstract painter based in South London, creating vibrant, expressive paintings rooted in emotion and spontaneity.

A self-taught artist, she found her way to painting in 2021, during a period of recovery from burnout after working for several years as an architect.

Her journey into art began long before that, though. In 2007, she studied History of Art at the Panthéon-Sorbonne in Paris, followed by a Foundation Diploma in Design. She then pursued a Master’s in Architecture at ENSA Paris-Malaquais, which led her to London and a position at the international firm Foster + Partners. But after six years in the profession, she felt deeply unfulfilled. The creative freedom she had always cherished through drawing, dancing, playing the piano, sewing, was missing from her day-to-day work.

Painting became a way back to herself. It allowed her to reconnect with a long-held need to express ideas through making, to work with her hands, intuitively and without constraint. What began at her kitchen table quickly grew into a dedicated practice, and in 2022 she began exhibiting in group shows and art fairs across London.
