About Frederick Gingell

Born on 30th July 1946 on the mediterranean island of Malta. I took up art as a mature student in 2000. Colour is the dominant characteristic of my works. I strive to reproduce what I see with my own experiences and feelings: re-inventing old painting skills of colour, shape and form from a new perspective. Favourite themes are the female figure depicted in various moods and beautiful faces! Beauty frequently inspires great portraits. Why? The emotions that it awakes in the creative artist need to be expressed in a personal and artistic manner. A real portrait needs a strong feeling, the soul, the inner spirit of the model and a personal creative point of view of the artist. My country, Malta, has a chequered history which is reflected in its buildings. I am fond of interpreting quaint streets, corners and facades.

At a young age I studied art under various well-known local artists. As a mature student I attended at Malta School of Arts, and spent seven years under the direction of Harry Alden.

Currently exhibiting works at Cellini Restaurant, Naxxar, Malta, and a couple of works at Sistine Wines & Co, Gzira, Malta.
