Fiona Sartoretto Verna

"I use beauty to denounce, colour to heal, and materials to tell the story of our fragile balance with the world."

Fiona Sartoretto Verna is an Italian contemporary artist and architect, born in Turin and based in Rome where she has her studio.

Growing up in a family deeply connected to architecture, design and painting, she developed an early interest in the relationship between colour, form, space and human perception. She graduated in Architecture from Sapienza University of Rome and studied painting under American artist AJ Finley McRee during her years in South Carolina. Her artistic education also includes studies at RUFA in Rome under her artteacher Simonetta Gagliano.

Her influences include Georgia O'Keeffe, Carla Accardi, Giacomo Balla and Chiharu Shiota, whose explorations of organic forms, abstraction, movement, memory and human experience resonate with her artistic research.

Working across oil painting, acrylic, mixed media, Plexiglass, aluminium-based supports and digital techniques, she explores the relationship between physical materials and immaterial experiences.

She holds a degree in Architecture from the Università La Sapienza, Rome. A formative chapter of her journey took place in South Carolina, USA, where she studied painting with abstract artist Aj Finley McRee — absorbing the raw energy of Lowcountry landscapes through acrylic and collage. On returning to Italy, she deepened her technique in oils and mixed media at the Accademia RUFA, Rome, under the guidance of Simonetta Gagliano.

Her artistic roots reach back to her grandmother, painter Lea Razzetti Galvan, whose works are held in private collections worldwide — from her she inherited an instinct for what lies beneath the visible surface.
