Fiurdelin Studio

Fiurdelin is a botanical illustration studio on Lake Como, Italy, that draws plants, fungi, and insects from specimens and sells the work as fine-art prints and digital plates.

Botanical illustration has been documenting the natural world for 500 years. It has never looked better on a living room wall.

The tradition runs deep around this lake — from the sheltered citrus gardens of the lakeside villas, where lemons have been grown for centuries in a climate that has no business supporting them, to the mountain meadows above the water, where alpine plants and butterflies have been recorded by naturalists since the eighteenth century. I work from that landscape, and I work the old way: observe first, understand the structure, then draw.

I came to this through admiration — for Ehret's precision, Redouté's feeling for light, Merian's insistence on showing the living insect alongside the living plant. I try to follow what they taught. The tradition is the method.
