Flavia Mesquita

I am an artist in love with paper. Fascinated by its textures and colours, I put in my work of cuttings and interlacement my perception of life - that everything is manifested by warp and woof - of ideas, of activities, of lives - expressing in paper yarns, symbolically, the woof that each action produces.
My works expresses mainly the human relationships – what connects and what affects one another – every mood-swing, every feeling, one's beliefs, one's state of mind, the way one faces the world and life itself. All this in a very simple way of toying layers, putting some paper yarns under and across others.

I am graduated in Visual Arts by Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas - São Paulo - Brazil (PUCC) in 1981 and ever since have developed several artistic activities in the fields of sculpture, pencil paintings, tapestry, weaving, among others.
Being tapestry teacher for over 15 years, I realized that weaving does not depend on threads alone, but on ideas.
