Christopher Nunes

I am a photographer based in Los Angeles whose creative path has moved through three intertwined fields: photography, advertising, and brand design.

I grew up in Middletown, Rhode Island, where my father owned a professional photography studio. An immigrant from the Azores, Portugal, he served during World War II as a documentary photographer in the US Army Air Force, assigned to a squadron of B-17 bombers stationed in Northampton, England. After the war he studied at The Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, the first Bauhaus-influenced design school in the United States, where photographers Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind were among the faculty.

My earliest photographic education took place beside him—in the field across Rhode Island and in the basement darkroom he built in our home. I later studied photojournalism at The University of Rhode Island and earned a Master’s degree in advertising from The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
