- I am a post-traumatic artist, exploring identity, survival and hope. Through digital collage, photography, sketching and mixed media, I transform raw emotions into layered, expressive works. Guided by a human-centered perspective and a lifelong interest in psychology, I create not only to express myself but to challenge societal norms. My dream is to one day be able to tell myself: “Now, you are free.”
Frida Why, the artistic name of Afroditi Gioti, is a contemporary artist based in Greece. Her work is deeply influenced by post-traumatic experience, using art as a way to process what cannot always be expressed in words. She transforms emotional wounds into layered, visual portraits that explore vulnerability, transformation, and acceptance.
During a period of isolation, she began creating digital collages, layering photography with textures, fragments, and emotion. What started as a personal survival practice gradually evolved into her distinctive visual language. Her work is drawn to people — particularly women — and the quiet stories held in their faces and eyes. Women occupy a central place in her work, embodying both strength and softness, qualities to which she feels a deep connection.
