Gala Biermann

I translate my observations and perceptions of the world into my paintings, installations, photo productions, and performances. In doing so, I explore the depths of human existence and becoming, examining inner states and identity. Everyday scenes and my own experiences serve as inspiration. My paintings tell of the small and big moments in life, of longing and connection.
My works are mostly created on canvas, predominantly with oil paint. I also work on paper and in the field of printmaking.
In my paintings, I want to leave questions open and present the viewer with puzzles. Because not everything has to be explained. There can be secrets.

For me, painting is a conversation: with myself, with the picture, with the world, and with what wants to be expressed. I try to listen, absorb, and make what I have absorbed visible on the picture carrier.
