Gala Lipatova

I am a contemporary painter with a background in architecture. My artistic practice explores the relationship between form, colour, texture, nature, and cultural memory.
My architectural training has shaped my sensitivity to structure, composition, and spatial relationships. In my paintings, I am interested in transforming visual observations into expressive images that invite viewers to look beyond the familiar.
My work encompasses different subjects and artistic approaches. In my ongoing Nomads series, I explore the visual heritage of ancient Eurasian steppe cultures. Alongside this work, I am developing an interest in organic abstraction, drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns and unexpected forms found in nature and everyday materials.
I am fascinated by the hidden visual worlds revealed through magnification: the structures of living organisms, the patterns of minerals, and the complex surfaces of metals and other materials. These discoveries offer starting points for paintings that balance observation and imagination, recognisable structures and abstraction.
For me, painting is a process of exploration — a way to discover unexpected beauty in the world around us and reinterpret it through colour, form, and texture.
