Geneviève Alaguiry

Geneviève Alaguiry, whose artist name is Genathena, lives and works in Reunion island where she was born in 1986. A graduate from Reunion Art School in 2010 and from Paris 8 University in 2011, she has had four major solo exhibitions in Reunion : "L'Illusion d'un monde" at the Ancien Hôtel de Ville, "Insalubrisalvia" at Léspàs culturel Leconte de Lisles, "Mécanique d'Humanisation" at the Villa de la Région and "Bulles de rêve" at the Artothèque. She has participated in some international workshops in Paris in 2018 at the Cité internationale des arts, and as well, in Mauritius island where she created her "Sociétance" work. She also took part in the "Première expo... Et après?" exhibition at the Artothèque in 2017 as well as in other group exhibitions in South Korea, Brasil, Mauritius and Reunion island. Her art investigates the human condition in a society which is falling into disuse. As a multidisciplinary artist, Geneviève Alaguiry inserts double-headed chimeras whose relation is constantly schizophrenic - shifting from prey to predator - in her drawings, photos, sculptures and installations.
