The artist is a native of California and maintains a studio in San Diego, California. Robert works primarily in oil. In addition to the original paintings, prints of his work are also available.Robert Gerdes specializes in local scenes of California including nearby mountain and desert regions. The artist is a world traveler and gains inspiration from his tours of Europe and, most recently, from his travels to Alberta and Quebec Canada. Robert's paintings are noted for his use of free brush work in an impressionist mode. He also enjoys detailed renderings of architecture.
Robert has recently joined the prestigious Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. This organization, based in Laguna Beach, California, sponsors many art shows at the Forest and Ocean Gallery in downtown Laguna Beach.
The artist has received his professional training as a scholarship student at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. This school later merged with the California Institute of the Arts. He also studied at the Corcoran School Art in Washington, DC.
Robert shows his art work in Spreckels Park, Coronado, on the first and third Sundays of the month. On the Second and fourth weekends of the month (Saturday and Sunday) he displays his work with the San Diego County Art Mart Association in Balboa Park near the International Houses down from the Organ Pavilion and across from the Organ Pavilion parking lot.
Robert is represented by the Nansook Art Gallery on La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, California.
