Gillette Fernandez, a French-Catalan artist born in 1947 in the French Pyrenees, has been painting for over 40 years. Educated at the Beaux-Arts of Perpignan, she began with figurative work before evolving into lyrical abstraction deeply inspired by the forces of nature.
Her canvases emerge from a dialogue with natural elements—earth, water, sky, and mountains. A spark from the outside world ignites the work, then the canvas itself takes over, guiding the creative process. Working in oil for its richness and subtle transparency, Fernandez builds layers that evoke movement, vibration, and life.
Her paintings transform landscapes into atmospheres of energy, where colors blend and collide like rivers, forests, storms, or horizons. They are less about representation than resonance—an invitation to feel the hidden life force that animates the natural world. Her work speaks to those seeking depth, contemplation, and a sense of connection to essential rhythms of existence.
