Giovanni Cascone

Born in 1960 in Belvedere Spinello, Italy, Giò Cascone’s artistic research is grounded in an ancestral relationship with matter. Starting from his early experience in his father’s woodworking shop, Cascone learned to "listen" to materials—a philosophy that evolved through his studies at the Institute of Art and the Faculty of Architecture in Florence.

In 1999, his practice shifted toward "painterly sculpture" (pittoscultura): a multi-material approach where organic, archaic elements (bark, burlap, rope) interact with modern debris (circuit boards, chips, metals) to build three-dimensional narratives between memory and future.

Critical praise highlights his uncompromising vision. Prof. Gianfranco Bartalotta notes: "Cascone imposes 'untimeliness' as a true concept of contemporary art, escaping passivity and predefined models." Art critic Prof. Egidio Maria Eleuteri describes his work as "cultivated, courageous, and deeply introspective."

Having maintained complete creative independence for over forty years, Cascone views art as an uncompromised, authentic dialogue with matter rather than a product of market rules.
