Aaron Borchardt

My name is Aaron, and I’m an architectural designer and artist based in Toronto, Canada, originally from Denver, Colorado. I hold a master’s degree in architecture from the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, where I lived and practiced for three years. That background continues to influence how I approach my artistic practice and how I combine structured, architectural thinking with an openness to experimentation and an intuitive process.

While I’ve been passionate about photography for many years, it was during my time at GSA that I developed a methodology for ‘glitching’ my photographs. This glitch art process began with a fascination for digital distortion and how far an image, which is something meant to preserve or represent a moment, can be pushed and reinterpreted. I use an iterative process of layering, destruction, and recomposition where I explore new forms of abstraction and invite unexpected visual meanings to emerge.
