I consider horses as a tremendously interesting art theme due to their movement, behaviour and reaction to various environmental situations. It proves that these animals are perfect subject for observation. The forms that horses’ bodies take in different moments is my main point of interest. Before I draw something, I imagine it spatially from every possible side – I carry in my head a kind of a 3D picture. I draw sketch after sketch until the moment when I’m able to draw this motif quickly without thinking of where to draw a particular line. Sometimes I succeed at once, though sometimes it takes a few or several efforts. I am happiest when I manage to find a perfect place for a specific line at once. When I’m not content with my work, I repeat it until I’m fully satisfied with its result. I remember when some time ago I was impatient with my work, but then I noticed that if I go through some complicated motif, it’s easier then to deal with a similar piece while I don’t need to reanalyze it. When I am at my best, I allow myself to improvise and give free rein to my imagination. I completed horse-riding course in the Olimpic Training Centre ‘Lewada’ and became a certified horse-riding instructor.

Gosia Mąkosa held her first exhibition named ‘Horses and Demons’ (1998) when she was a high school student – Kazamaty in Zabszyn. The next one was ‘My love – Horses’ – in the Cultural Centre in Smigiel (2001) and again ‘My love – Horses’ – in the Public Library in Wolsztyn (2001).

2007 – ‘Horses for the Polish Soul,’ collective exhibition after outdoor painting, WSE Almamer, Warsaw

2008 – The ‘pARTicipation’ project (University of Fine Arts in Poznan, ISP Zielona Gora, PWW Gallery and ‘Stara Winiarnia’ Gallery in Zielona Gora)

2008 – ‘Stubble – landscape with a horse in the backdrop,’ collective exhibition after outdoor painting, WSE Almamer, Warsaw

2009 – ‘POLKAphoto’ – Collective exhibition held by the Polish women photographers (Beata Pawlikowska, Danuta Kisiel, Berenika, Gosia Mąkosa) in Inselgalerie in Berlin

Recently, Gosia has been cooperating with the Polish magazine ‘Swiat Koni’ (‘The World of Horses’).

In December 2011 Gosia’s work was recognized with an honourable mention for the 7th Great Photographical Contest, organized by National Geographic, in the Animals category
