Harris Fanany

Harris’s work is an exploration of memory, place, and emotion through the lens of abstract impressionism. Hailing from the serene Maluku Islands, Harris’s early connection to art was shaped by his travels as a sailor. His time spent navigating the waters of East Nusa Tenggara—home to the islands of Sumba, Komodo, and others—left an indelible mark on his creative vision.

Rather than depicting these landscapes directly, Harris's paintings channel the essence of his experiences. His work speaks to the feeling of longing, the quiet beauty of distant places, and the profound connection to the natural world. In his abstract compositions, imperfection is as important as perfection, and the subtle layers of color and form invite the viewer to engage deeply, drawing from their own memories and emotions to complete the narrative.

Now a full-time artist based in Jakarta, Harris continues to create works that evoke both introspection and wonder, offering a personal, open-ended meditation on the landscapes that have shaped his journey. His paintings encourage us to slow down and immerse ourselves in the richness of the present moment, while also reflecting on the deeper emotions and memories that each place, each brushstroke, may hold.
