Henry Diaz

Henry Guillermo Díaz is a Venezuelan contemporary artist born in Maracaibo in 1986 and currently based in New York City. From an early age, he demonstrated an exceptional aptitude for drawing and painting. At just five years old, his first drawings were published in a local Venezuelan newspaper, and throughout his childhood he participated in numerous art competitions, receiving several awards for his work.
Although deeply connected to art from an early age, Díaz never pursued formal artistic training. While studying law at university, he temporarily stepped away from his creative practice. Years later, following political persecution in Venezuela and the loss of his mother, he emigrated to New York, where art gradually re-emerged as both a necessity and a means of rebuilding his life.
After surviving a serious cardiac condition during a period marked by personal tragedy and the COVID-19 pandemic, Díaz returned to creating. He initially focused on drawing and pet portraiture before discovering abstraction as his most authentic visual language. Through abstraction, he found a way to transform memory, grief, resilience, and hope into images that transcend literal representation.

Diaz’s work is a visual testimony of resilience and the self-taught journey of reconstruction. Having returned to painting after a life-altering illness, he has developed a technique through independent research, art literature, and digital learning platforms, bypassing traditional academic paths to find an authentic voice. His creation comes from an urgent need to translate complex emotions into analytical thought. Through his art, he seeks to connect with the collective pulse of the city, offering pieces that serve as catalysts for intellectual expansion and emotional healing. His goal is to transform personal history into a universal tool that nurtures and broadens the human mind."
