Emeritus Professor Harry McMahon: born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1937, educated there to first degree level (Honours in Physics at Queens), then school teaching for several years, followed by a Masters in Education at Leicester and then on to teacher education at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, until retirement in 2001. Started painting as an amateur in 1979, became Flowerfield Art Centre tutor in watercolours the following year, exhibited successfully in several one man and group shows in Ireland and France. And then, following retirement from a Chair in Education, took a First Class Honours degree in Fine and Applied Art at the University of Ulster in 2006. Now painting in two contrasting styles, one influenced by man's attempts, through science and mathematics, to make meaning by imposing order on chaos, the other by the now more than a century old tradition of Irish landscape painting.
