About Ian Butcher
After a long career in design consultancy I am dedicating time to my love of collage.
The rules I have always set myself - everything has to be original, witty and charged with interest.
Hope you like them!
Inspired by the book "The home Altars of Mexico" together with roadside shrines, temples and churches I have seen in various parts of the world, I decided to create a series of pieces which pay tribute to the many visual manifestations of worship. They embrace all kinds of beliefs, often at the same time - and not just religious. The project includes all kinds of acts of devotion. The more I produce, the more I appreciate the ingenuity people display in constructing their own "˜doorways' to worlds beyond. From the largest cathedrals to the corner of the kitchen, via the roadside, it's the human race's largest depository of visual art.
