ABOUT
Inès Peyret is a journalist, author, and visual artist. As a child, she experienced her first aesthetic awakening through African art. After returning to France from numerous trips to Africa, she began working primarily with found objects and discarded materials. The multicultural influences (Duchamp, Picasso, Jacques-Yves Burel, Hazoumé, Sokari Douglas-Camp, Wangechi Mutu, Calixte Dakpogan, El Anatsui, Dilomprizulike, Haroshi, Olu Amoda to cite a few) in her creations are apparent in her choice of subjects and concepts, as well as in her use of scrap materials—items considered worthless yet whose beauty she perceives. Their familiar shapes are reassembled into new organic structures, aestheticizing discards and blurring the line between the mechanical and the human. Exploring the tension between utility and emotion, each sculpture, reborn from ruins, is a meditation on transformation, repair, and what we choose to let go.
