Ivan Jovanovic Orsof

I like calling it always ''picture-making''. Sometimes with cement, bitumen and sawdust, sometimes with iridescent candy wrappers, found objects, spray paints and oils. I have been finding myself often in the company of themes like urban landscapes, consumerism, over-production and sheer overload; sometimes I am most at home in a rural landscape. I tend to think the best by doing: encountering materials, being curious about their visual potential, applying them to document my response and surrounding. I see this link following me. I am a painter but I like calling myself a picture-maker. It captures more directly what painting is really after.
Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1974. At age ten moves with family to North America (Toronto, Canada). Since 1999 has lived and worked in Toronto, Belgrade, London and Berlin. Based in Berlin.
