James Maberly is an artist (sculpture and drawing) and an author. Born in Kenya and brought up in Zimbabwe (both in Africa), he lived an idyllic early life on a farm, surrounded by animals. After school, he studied art at both Ipswich and Norwich Schools of Art, specialising in sculpture and drawing, attaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. This led to four happy years as an art lecturer at Suffolk College teaching sculpture, drawing and 3D drawing. He continues to produce drawings and sculpture and also now teaches drawing from his studio.
He has always had a great affinity with the animals around him, whether wild or domestic. He has done a number of sculptures of elephants as they have always held a particular fascination for him. He is known for his ability to capture a sense of movement in both his drawings and sculptures.
