Hi! I am James Rowell. I grew up in Canberra, Australia and graduated from the Victoria College of the Arts in Painting in 1987. I have participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions since then. As well as paint I like to grow vegetables.I am a member of the Canberra Organic Growers' Association and as well as vegetable I enjoy growing Australian native plants.

1988 received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art (painting) from the Victoria College of the Arts.

'Researches in Electricity’ by Michael Faraday (1791 – 1867).

In 2010 I decided to make art about science as a result of reading ‘The Experimental Researches in Electricity’ by Michael Faraday (1791 – 1867).I have added to these over the years.The technique used in my artwork occupies the middle position between the formal designs of the Australian Aboriginal Dot painting of the Western Desert and the French Impressionist painting that occurred at the end of the nineteenth century in France. There are two reasons for this. The first is that I find Aboriginal art, especially that of Emily Kame Knawarreye, very convincing as have so many other Australian artists. In my view Aboriginal Dot painting captures the harshness of the landscape. The second reason is that I like to break a picture into units making it more open and more accessible.
