James's pictures tend to raise a question in the mind. For years, he has worked as an illustrator, tasked with distilling information and conveying it metaphorically in visual form. In his personal work, the client is himself, and the subjects are the thorny conundrums of life.
After painting for years, James now also works in Photoshop, starting with a drawing and incorporating various textures.
James graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1980 and has been illustrating since then. His influences are vast, running from Fra Angelico to Rene Magritte and beyond.
