ARTIST STATEMENT | JANET ROSENER
My intention is to contain light spatially within the surface of a painting. To have it appear to emanate from within, rather than merely emphasize light's reflective or kinetic qualities.
By creating this feeling of light from within, I am able to focus on the expansive quality of light, and its ability to become a "˜marker' for spatial relationships.
This work marks a transition for me as an artist; painting in a purely intuitive and improvisational manner using a traditional surface to painting in a very focused, thought out, planned manner on a non-traditional surface. This new work is simply an evolution of my creative process that has become more focused and specific.
The overall direction of my work is how a piece of art feels, not what it means. Where my previous work was expressive, unstudied, and left up to interpretation, this current body of work is thought-out, planned, and intentional, in order to express a very focused sensory feeling.
