South African-Australian artist, Jaqueline Burgess has devoted her career to recording the natural world around her, her vivid landscapes capture the magic of Australia's East Coast, depicting the sheer beauty of the world around the Illawarra. Burgess’ work deftly captures the power of Australia's ancient landscape. When sitting with a landscape by Burgess, one is struck by the relative insignificance of human intervention in the land; those of her works that do depict the interference of people show that even as shoreside homes, swimming pools and people scatter the landscape, there is no competing with the vastness of this country. In more recent works, Jaqueline has taken a more intimate approach to exploring Australia's landscape, looking at native flora using still life as a vehicle to explore elements of the environment within the context of the home.
Jacqueline's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. As a finalist in the Arts In The Valley in 2022 and a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait prize in 2016 - Jaqueline moves between portrait painting, landscapes, and still life paintings.
