Biography: In the small village called Corazón de Jesús, a district near the city of Badajoz, Javier Soto J S was born in a landscape house close to a hermitage. Very soon, the transfer of his parents to Guadalajara and Madrid put the child in touch with the world of art and gardening of which his father was a great lover. The Prado Museum, the Royal Palace, the gardens of Campo del Moro, the close Escorial and the Botanical Garden were spaces that left a deep impression on the mind of that child who manifested, from his early childhood, a clear artistic temperament. Nevertheless, the early death of his father shocked Javier Soto´s course of life in such a way that, when he was barely ten years old, he resolved to relieve the unbearable grief of that absence angrily opressing the creative will which his father had encouraged. Nor his professional studies in delineation, nor the prizes he won for his drawings at school managed to liberate his deep infantile renounce to the cultivation of art.

I am an artist whose crusade is to value the enameled, light-weight, mobile and framed ceramics to endow the artistic status it deserves. So I researched for years about the treatment of mosaic tiles to achieve giving it an artistic value that goes beyond the tradictional mosaic craft. My creative program, therefore, has enameled tiles as a basic element of artistic expression, a research project in which the plastic, the visual stimulation and the suggestion prevail on the formal perfection. In this way of investigation about the artistic possibilities of this support, I conducted text of color, shapes, firing as well as looked for ways to achieve lightweight and mobile artworks. In those years I held exhibitions with no interesting in making sales or profit, with the unique idea of publically displaying my thesis, observing the reaction of audience and hearing their views. The result has been that the infinite possibilities of this media allows both author and audience to take part in a continuous dialog encouraged by the creative freedom and endless suggestions of the forms, shapes and handcrafted methods, getting unique and unrepeatable works.
