Jayoung Yoon is a New York-based artist born in South Korea. Her work draws upon the mind-matter phenomenon, exploring our thought systems, perception and body sensations. By using the ephemeral, delicate qualities of hair, she makes hair sculptures, paintings and video, and performance to invite people to pay attention to the present moment, and heighten their awareness to the subtleties of the site.
She received her M.F.A. from the Fiber Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, 2009. Before that, she graduated the Post-baccalaureate certificate program at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, 2007. She received her B.F.A. from the Painting and Visual Communication Design Department at Hongik University in Seoul, Korea.
Select exhibitions in the USA include Bronx Museum of the Arts, San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, Hudson Valley Museum of Contemporary Art, New Bedford Art Museum, Ohio Craft Museum, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Here Arts Center, Artisans Center of Virginia, VA, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, Korea, and Seoul Olympic Museum of Art, Korea.
