Jean Cherouny's "physicality" with paint grew out of her competitive skiing and mountain biking careers. She sees painting as a way of believing. As an abstract artist, Jean believes in the body's ability to make marks reflecting the techniques and themes of her time. She lives in Vermont but grew up in Connecticut.
Jean loved alpine skiing from a young age and graduated High School from Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont. She attended Landmark College, Putney, Vermont, USA to strengthen her academic skills in 1997 where she also competed in ski racing. She went on to receive her BS in Art Education, Magna Cum Laude, from The University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont, in 1991. Jean was proud to ski for a national championship there. She studied painting at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, USA, 2006-2010 where she received her MFA from Johnson State College in 2010.
Big events in Jean's painting career include visiting the Sunday Salons of the late Louise Bourgeois in her NYC home to receive critique and understand her painting process in 2010. Jean graduated from her MFA program in 2010 to continue to develop her painting style. Later she juried into a number of international shows while she traveled from Vermont, USA to Prague, CZ to show and work at the Bubec Studio. Her works can be seen in the Art Takes Miami 2012 catalog available on Amazon. Jean was also in the 2016 Global Arts Agency catalog for the R'DAM INT"L ART FAIR where she attended and painted live for patrons. She was in a group show of the 2018 Vermont Artists to Watch at the Vermont Arts Council in Montpelier, VT that featured her rollerblade painting.
