Jean-Paul Courchia is a Franco-American painter whose work has been celebrated in Europe and the United States for over thirty years. Deeply inspired by the landscapes and light of Provence, he is a figurative artist known for his colorful and poetic depictions of rural scenery, French interiors, still lifes, and, more recently, abstract explorations. His early works focused on the play of color in shadows, following the principle of Paul Cézanne that “shadow is a color,” while his later paintings have gradually incorporated silhouettes and human figures, creating a dialogue between place, light, and life.
Jean-Paul has exhibited in prestigious venues including the Provençal Gallery Jouvène in Marseille, the Municipal Archives of Marseille, and internationally, attracting collectors such as Queen Paola of Belgium, the Consul General of Japan in Marseille, and the President of the National Arts Club in New York. His work has been featured in publications like Côté Sud, where his paintings were praised for their breadth, luminosity, and poetic representation of Provence.
As both a medical doctor and an artist, Jean-Paul has studied how viewers engage with art, using eye-tracking technology to analyze patterns of gaze in front of mast...
Trained in both medicine and fine arts, Jean-Paul Courchia combines a scientific understanding of perception with a lifelong practice of painting.
Studied classical and contemporary techniques in France, influenced by Cézanne, Matisse, Verdilhan, Camoin, Lesbros, and Marquet.
Over fifty-seven years of painting experience, exhibiting internationally and maintaining a continuous exploration of light, color, and human perception in art.
