Jennie Smallenbroek

I am a Dutch painter, illustrator and printmaker whose artistic practice has grown from a multidisciplinary background in fashion, fine art and textiles. I began my formal art education at the age of 45, studying with several Dutch artists and attending courses at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence and The Florence Academy of Art in Sweden.

I work primarily with oils, watercolours, inks and traditional printmaking techniques. Nature, animals, the human spirit and the symbolic beauty of everyday life are recurring sources of inspiration. My work ranges from luminous landscapes and detailed still lifes to expressive portraits and spiritual, Art Nouveau-inspired imagery.

Patience, craftsmanship, reflection and attention to detail are central to everything I create. I admire the knowledge of artisans and the beauty of traditional techniques, which I reinterpret through a contemporary and intuitive approach.

Whether I am building transparent layers of oil paint, exploring the delicacy of watercolour or creating a multi-layered linocut, I allow colour, texture and emotion to guide the process. My aim is to create art that brings beauty, wonder and a sense of connection into the spaces where it is experienced.

I began my formal art education at the age of 45. I studied under several Dutch artists before continuing my training through summer courses at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence and The Florence Academy of Art in Sweden. These experiences strengthened my technical foundation and deepened my appreciation for traditional drawing and painting methods.
